One of the first choices you have to make in Chronicon is what difficulty to play it on. You always want to play the game on Casual when first starting a character. This is because the Magic Find/Crystals/Experience bonus you get from higher difficulties does not outweigh the additional time it takes to kill mobs. However, you should be aware that the hardest difficulty, Legendary, is what you will aim for in the late game when you're strong enough to kill mobs on that setting efficiently. This is due to it having better reward scaling compared to the other difficulties. While selecting your difficulties you may see that Veteran and Heroic difficulties drop 'Legendaries' and that Legendary difficulty drops 'True Legendaries.' This can be a trap new players fall into thinking that they will get more powerful items if they trudge through the harder difficulties. Instead, having these drops early on will not benefit you and the higher difficulty will only serve to hinder your progress and I'll explain why.For one, True Legendaries only drop once you're level 100 - meaning you don't even have a chance of getting them at this point anyways. Additionally, all items, including Legendaries, scale with your level. This means if you get a Legendary drop and you're level 10 the item will also be level 10.
Jul 12, 2019 Chronicon – Northern Rage Berserker (Build Guide). This is a guide for one of my absolute favorite builds in the game, the Northern Rage berserker using Glacial Roll as both attack and movement. Yeah it’s at 1300 mastery, was too lazy to respec it down to something more reasonable. (I hate respecing mastery SO much).
If the item drops and you're level 55 the item will also be 55. The item's level vastly impacts its strength. This means that a level 65 ordinary item can end up being stronger than a level 10 Legendary.
It's for these reason you don't want to waste your time in the early game farming rare items. When should you increase the difficulty? In general, you should always be on Casual mode until at least level 40 as this is when you will finally unlock your Ultimate, which will be a big boost to your damage and power. After this point only ever increase the difficulty if you're able to farm at the same speed as the previous difficulty. The rewards for higher difficulties are not good enough to make farming slower a good enough tradeoff.Once you start surpassing level 40 you should consider increasing the difficulty to Veteran whenever you can farm it efficiently as it gives a chance for mobs to drop Legendaries. This is important as item sets are Legendaries and are typically the most important and powerful items in your build - I will go into this in more detail in the Gear section.
WarlockI've created an (a build I used to beat Anomaly 201lvl+), which you can check out if you'd like more detailed information about abilities, items, and more! The Warlock is an overall strong class with high aoe dps that generally makes up for weak defenses with the mobility of a teleport. That being said, the Warlock has a lot of diversity in its builds and playstyles ranging from more standard aoe dps using the Frost, Fire, and Corruption trees to the more unique playstyle found in the Agony tree. The Warlock is well rounded throughout all phases of the game.Gear Dependence: MediumEarly Game: MediumMid Game: StrongLate Game: StrongSummary. Warden and Warlock are the strongest starter classes. Templar is good late game, but requires difficult to find gear.
Berserker is overall the weakest class. In this game health and mana potions are actually quite important. You should be constantly consuming them when you're fighting.
The way the game is designed in terms of mob difficulty and combat it's expected of you to be chugging back potions on cooldown. Don't mistakingly think that you can get by without them as it's highly unlikely. Because of this, if the default keybinds are too difficult for you to spam regularly then you should consider rebinding them to something more comfortable.Additionally, it's important to be aware that the vendor Sarek upgrades potions to their next tier every 10 levels. For this reason, every 10 levels you should go to Sarek and sell all of your potions and rebuy the new more powerful potions. This would mean level 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, etc. The upgraded potions make a huge difference so don't forget to do this.
Ironically, Spiked Traps will likely be one of your most common causes of death in the early-mid game. They are difficult to see and you often won't even realize you're taking damage from one until it's too late. They do an insane amount of damage with a high attack rate. Their attack animation is also extremely fast meaning that unless you have very high movement speed you won't be able to run over them and dodge the damage. Can you find the spiked trap?
This is on the highest brightness setting. There are two solutions that will help you avoid spiked traps. The first is hitting Esc Options Video & Interface Extra Ambient Light and turning it to 100%. The second is acquiring one of the Legendary Boots that protects you from spiked damage. For each Act in Chronicon the shrines will change visually - resulting in 3 different looking shrines. However, they still all have the same possible effects - it's just a visual change. Shrines can stack and triggering a shrine with an effect you already have will also stack.
Dying will result in you losing all shrine effects.Shrines are actually quite helpful especially in the end game content: Anomalies. They can make you significantly stronger and certain Shrines actually synergize with certain builds giving you massive boosts in damage or survivability. Below I've listed all possible effects you can gain from Shrines and their corresponding text bubble that will appear when activated. You may be wondering about Tarot the gambling vendor that you gain access to at level 10. The general rule is that you should not be gambling until you're level 100. This is because an item's strength is dependent on your character's level. If you spend tons of money gambling before you're level 100 you will find yourself simply outleveling the item and it becoming weaker than the regular items that drop from mobs.Note: Your Magic Find stat and Difficulty has no impact on the gambling vendor.
Gambling at Casual difficulty with 0% Magic Find will net you the same results as gambling on Legendary difficulty with 300% Magic Find. However, there is one exception. If you have pieces of gear that are lagging behind you in levels and are relatively weak than you should buy one new piece of gear from the gambling vendor to replace it.
Don't worry about the enchantments or rarity at this point - you're simply buying it for the increase in its base stats.Gambling will become more important later on in the game once you're a higher level. This is because the gambling vendor has a chance for the item to be Legendary. This is important as the item sets for your class are Legendaries and acquiring a complete set is what will give you the biggest power increase. If you can help it try to wait until you're level 100 before you start spending your hard earned crystals trying to get one of your set pieces. Also, one thing to note is that you can't acquire 'True Legendaries' from gambling - they can only drop from chests or mobs. Your inventory space can be expanded through bags. You have 2 bag slots where you can equip them. The best possible bag you can get is the 'Bottomless Bag' which expands your inventory by 12 slots.
You need to equip two of these in order to complete the 'Hoarder' steam achievement. However, they are extremely rare so count yourself lucky if you ever find one let alone two.The tier below Bottomless Bag are the two 9 slot bags. These will likely be the ones you use since the Bottomless Bag is so rare. You can fairly easily acquire two 9 slot bags by farming a unique mob called 'Rosebud' who drops the bag 'Rosepack.'
To do this, go to Act 3 and then to the Herb Garden. In there you will find Rosebud who you can kill for the bag. You can simply reload the game and kill him again for another bag.
I recommend doing this once you've gotten this far in the story mode as maximizing your inventory space can be beneficial - especially in areas like Unstable Dimensions where you can't use Scrolls of Return to empty your inventory if it's full. Leveling in this game is important, especially early on, as it grants you acess to new more powerful skills and stronger items. Basically, until you've gained access to your core skills in the build you've chosen, leveling will be vastly more important than any kind of gear you might find.Currently, the max level is level 100. Until you achieve this max level any and all gear that you find will eventually be replaced by level 100 gear so don't worry or fret too much about rolling the perfect gear before then.At the moment, you can buy Elixir of the Mind from Sarek to reset your skill points. You can somewhat exploit this to your advantage early on by putting all your skill points in an early game skill, leveling up to unlock a more powerful one, then resetting your skill points and dumping them all in your new more powerful skill.
This can give you bigger power spikes at levels 5, 10, 20, and 30.Regardless, you should be using Elixir of the Mind fairly regularly to not only fine tune and optimize your build, but also to try out different skills and spells. What's the best way to level? The best way to level is farming the Storage Area in Act 1. You can find the stairs to it in the Upper Temple Halls. Do it on Casual difficulty and only increase the difficulty if you can clear it just as fast as the previous difficulty.Your goal when leveling should be to only clear out the trash mobs as they give far more experience for your time than the higher tier ones.
The exception would be if you can clear all mobs at the same speed, but most likely you will find the champion mobs to take a lot longer to kill - just walk past them and ignore them as they're not worth your time and there are better methods for farming gear, which I cover in more detail in my Gear section. KillstreaksIn Chronicon there's a killstreak mechanic that rewards you additional experience and crystals the more kills you chain uninterrupted. Naturally, getting large killstreaks can help you level faster. However, although they're always a benefit, they don't make much of an impact until the later difficulties so if you're farming on Casual I wouldn't even really worry about them.Killstreaks can be maintained by damaging enemies before the slider runs out.
Because of this, a strategy you can implement is to throw a weak damaging spell on an enemy as you're transitioning to the next big mob pack. You can also purposely leave a mob or two alive so that you can damage them as you kite towards the next pack to prevent the slider from running out and in turn maintain your killstreak. Summary. Leveling is important early on to gain access to your core skills. Use Elixirs of the Mind from Sarek to reset your skill points and optimize your build. Character level impacts item level of drops. Ideally, you want to be max level 100 before you grind for gear.
Farming the Storage Area in Act 1 is the best method for leveling. Prioritize trash mobs when leveling and ignore elite/champion mobs. Killstreaks aren't important until higher difficulties.
Damage mobs as you transition to the next mob pack to maintain killstreaks. As mentioned previously, items that drop will match your character's level. The item's level impacts its strength siginificantly. For that reason, the ideal time to farm for gear is once you're max level so that the items that drop have the strongest possible base stats and enchantment rolls. However, not everyone is looking to min/max perfectly for end game content. In any case, as you're leveling you should be updating your gear fairly regularly since you will eventually out level the current gear you're wearing.
A good rule of thumb is to update any piece of gear that's 10 levels or more lower than you. The exception is if it's a rare item that gives a lot of good effects or enchantments that outweigh the base stat gain you would acquire from a new piece. The difference between a level 10 ring and a level 100If the gear type that needs updating, such as your Helm, isn't dropping from mobs then you want to purchase one from the gambling vendor.
Just buy a single piece, don't bother trying to roll the perfect one. It's an immediate solution, relatively cheap, and you always have a small chance of rolling a powerful rare. What's the best way to farm gear? The best way to farm gear at the moment is killing the Act 2 final boss Oakstorm.
You can find him in Archdruid's Retreat. He has a great drop rate and is relatively easy, consistent, and fast to farm. Additionally, there are two shrines next to him. Every so often you can get one of the shrines that boost your Magic Find and if you're really lucky then you'll get two of them.
This combined with the gear swap techniqued mentioned below you can reach absurd Magic Find.Currently, you're able to swap gear while in combat which you can use to your benefit. What you want to do is get the boss very low on health and then swap to your highest Magic Find gear right before you kill it. This will help you achieve more frequent powerful drops and maximize your time spent farming gear.In terms of Magic Find gear, you want to get the 3-piece Seeker's Gambit set as that will give you a big boost in Magic Find.
Additionally, try to save items for your other slots that have Magic Find. AnomaliesAnomalies are an end game content type consisting of an endless dungeon of ever increasing difficulty. The higher you climb through the Anomalies the harder the monsters, but also the higher your Magic Find will be increased.Although this sounds great on paper, in practice it's a catch-22. It's only until the extremely high Anomalies(Level 150+) do they begin to overtake the previous method of farming gear. However, to farm these Anomalies you would need to be close to your final item build.
For these reasons, Anomalies, at least on the current patch, are better suited as a challenge to push yourself once you've acquired your end game items. GamblingOnce you're level 100 you should definitely add gambling to your gear farming strategy. Gambling is best used to get specific set pieces you need. However, don't go out of your way farming crystals to afford gambling.
Instead, use the first method of killing the Act 2 final boss and simply sell all of the items he drops that you don't need. That will eventually add up and give you enough money to afford gambling for one of your set pieces. Ideal time to farm gear is once you're max level 100. Update your gear regularly as you level so it doesn't lag behind you. The best method of farming gear is to kill the Act 2 final boss Oakstorm. Anomalies aren't good for farming gear until absurdly high levels. Gambling is best used to get specific set pieces.
At some point in time you might consider the idea of farming crystals over gear. Perhaps you're looking to do it for steam achievement purposes or perhaps you need it to gamble. Either way, you will be wondering what the best way to gain crystals is.I've experimented with different methods, but overall the fastest and most efficient method I've found is farming the Storage Area in Act 1. This area not only provides you with the best leveling and crystal farming, but also is likely the second best area for Magic Finding. This is great as it means while you're grinding experience you're also gaining a high amount of crystals for gambling in the late game and can potentially pick up some strong items. There is one area that you might have stumbled upon that seems tempting and potentially stronger than the method stated above. This would be the Sealed Chamber in the Lower Temple Halls. Inside you will find a Unique Boss, tons of gold piles that drop crystals, and a number of chests to open.
However, to enter the Sealed Chamber you have to kill The Treasurer and get the Treasure Key. This additional time it takes to locate The Treasurer and kill him in my opinion makes it a less efficient method then farming the Storage Area.In terms of end game the best way to farm crystals would be high level Anomalies(lvl 100+) due to the constant drop rate and crystal bonus.
However, it's likely if you can farm Anomalies this high that you don't need crystals. Unstable Dimensions are areas you can access through a portal that is created randomly while killing mobs. Inside the Unstable Dimension you will only find Elite monsters, which are all given the same affix/prefix, which is indicated in the top right corner as their 'mod.' The type of mobs you find within an Unstable Dimension is dependent on the area it spawned in. Once you enter the portal you can't use Scrolls of Return and dying or leaving will close the portal preventing you from re-entering.Because all of the mobs are Elite and all have the same affix/prefix this can result in either extremely dangerous or extremely profitable encounters.
The best being 'Treasurer' which will give you a massive amount of drops. When encountering an Unstable Dimension you should always enter it to at least see what mod it has. If you are lucky enough to get the 'Treasurer' or 'Hoarder' mods then full clearing them will be fruitful. However, if the Elite mobs have a more difficult mod and are too time consuming for you to clear there's nothing wrong with leaving and doing a more efficient method of farming.
In general though, if you can clear them fast regardless of the mod then they can be a great way to hybrid farm both experience and gear. However, due to their rare drop rate they can't be used as your main method of leveling/farming. The Rigged VaultThe Rigged Vault is an area with no enemies with chests spawned throughout. After entering you will have 20 seconds to loot the chests. Once the timer ends all chests are destroyed and all the loot on the ground that hasn't been picked up will vanish.I recommend equipping all of your Magic Find items and hotkeying your mobility spells. Don't spend any time looking at how good the item drops are.
Simply open the chests and only pick up the items of rarity that you need. Typically a Golden Chest will be located at each of the four corners of the map. For this reason if you have enough mobility and are fast enough you should prioritize opening them. With enough practice and mobility you can open all of the Golden chests while opening roughly 1/2 or 3/4 of the regular chests or in some cases all of them.
The Crumbling ReliquaryIn this challenge you will be forced to run away as the room crumbles behind you. However, in front of you are spikes everywhere. Do not make the common mistake of trying to run over the spikes and tanking them as they will kill you. You have to pay attention to the openings and dodge the spiked traps. Also, you will find a lot of Legendary chests that spawn off to the sides in groups of 3, so if you're fast you can grab a few. At the end, you will be rewarded with 2 Golden Chests.I recommend hotkeying mobility spells prior to entering as it can help you dodge spikes and stay ahead of the crumbling room behind you.
At the same time, try to bring some Magic Find items for the Golden Chests at the end. If you have legendary or true legendary boots that prevent damage from spiked traps then this challenge will be extremely easy. Anomalies are unlocked after beating the game and talking to Tinka who then opens a portal to 'Tinka's Domain.' When you first do Anomalies it starts at level 1. Entering the portal brings you to a new location with a new anomaly bar at the bottom left hand corner. Clearing mobs will fill this bar.
Once it reaches 100% a portal will open to the next Anomaly level. Every 3 levels a boss will spawn that you must beat in order to get to the next level.
However, if you die when facing the boss you will be kicked out of the Anomaly and have to restart the level. Scrolls of Return can be used within Anomalies.Anomalies are not affected by the difficulty you set your game as they have their own difficulty that scales with each level. Because of this Anomalies offer you a way to surpass Legendary difficulty. Anomaly level 30 is considered Legendary difficulty so everything above Level 30 has surpassed the story mode's 'Legendary' difficulty setting. Climbing high enough in Anomalies will change the difficulty to 'Mythical' however this doesn't mean there was some big jump in difficulty or rewards it's simply a visual indiciator. Anomalies scale by level little by little in a linear fashion.
Also, for every 10 levels in an Anomaly it will increase the loot from the Golden Chest you receive from the Anomaly Boss. For monsters each additional Anomaly level increases health, damage, elemental bonuses, and their spells and affixes get improved in various ways. They also get an increased frequency of Champion and Elite spawns and will roll more affixes. For players each additional Anomaly level increases Magic Find, Experience Gained, and Crystals Found, however reduces your resistances to all elements. As you climb higher in Anomalies you're able to break 1000% Magic Find. However, due to the base drop rate of the mobs themselves it still requires you achieve a very high level of Anomaly(150+) until farming Anomalies can be considered a possible alternative to the gear farming method mentioned earlier in this guide.I've been able to complete Anomaly 201lvl+ using a Freezelock build. I've created an in-depth guide for my Freezelock build, including Anomaly clearing and gear farming videos, which you can find. Summary.
Anomalies are end game content designed to infinitely scale in difficulty and challenge you. With each level the difficulty increases but so do the rewards. Dying when facing the boss results in you having to restart the Anomaly. At level 30+ the difficulty begins to surpass the highest one in story mode: 'Lengedary'.
Due to the base drop rate of the mobs you find within Anomalies it's still better to use the gear farming method mentioned previously in the guide until you can break extremely high levels of Anomalies(100+). In this game you'll find a unique type of mob that are called Unique Bosses scattered all over. Each Unique Boss will drop the same specific Unique Item with a 100% drop rate. Additionally, they can be farmed infinitely. These items can be quite powerful and can be especially helpful early-mid game when you don't have your complete end game set/items.
Below I've compiled a list of all Unique Bosses with their respective Unique Items - naturally there will be spoilers so you've been warned. Ignore the base stats of the items as I farmed them at different levels. Instead, what's important are the unique effects they have. The percentages and numbers for enchantments on Unique Items are rolled when they drop.
This means sometimes you want to farm a Unique Boss multiple times to get a near perfect roll. Similarly, you can go back and farm the Unique Item whenever you begin to out level the one you're wearing. In this way, Unique Items can offer a very consistent way of maintaining a good power curve relative to the enemies. True Legendaries are currently the rarest item type and only drop once you're level 100 and are playing on Legendary difficulty. They do not have a chance of dropping from the gambling vendor.
True Legendaries are not simply a better version of regular Legendaries, but instead are their complete own item. True Legendaries also have the highest base stats of all the item types.Due to their strength True Legendaries are often the Best in Slot pieces for many builds. However, Legendary Set Pieces often still offer the biggest power spike. Because of this, the typical framework of an end game build will consist of a full Legendary Set with True Legendaries filling in the gear slots that the item set doesn't occupy. Below I've compiled an incomplete list of some of the True Legendaries in the game to give you an idea of what they look like and some of their abilities. I'm known for writing guides for games, most notably for www.lolking.net where I've reached Challenger/Master for the past four seasons.I love most genres of games, but growing up Diablo II was the first game to ignite the passion I have today. As such, Chronicon caught my attention as it was clearly influenced by the more classic ARPGs such as Diablo II. For this reason, I was inspired to write this guide to help out newer/intermediate players as I think this game has a lot of potential and I'd like to see it grow.I hope my guide helped you understand the game and its systems better. If you have any feedback or need any help, feel free to reply to the guide or reach me on You can also check out my stream on www.twitch.tv. I have looked in the guide, and I am pretty sure I saw nothing about quest rewards. For example, there's the headmistress Camille, which wants her glasses(or whatever they are) and this quest can reward the player with the 'Student's Textbook'.The textbook might be confusing for new players, because it's got two strange stats.-50% Sleep+200% Caffeine consumptionI understand the joke, but you might consider writing about quest rewards, so people might know which quests are worth the time, and vice versa.
